Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has revealed why Jose Mourinho failed this season. The manager was sacked in December after Chelsea were hovering just above the relegation zone.
The Portuguese managed to win only 4 of his first 16 games in charge this campaign, a run of results that left Roman Abrahmovic no choice but to fire the coach for the second time in his Chelsea career.
Fabregas was one of the players targetted by the Chelsea fans. He was blamed for not following the manager’s instructions along with Eden Hazard and Diego Costa due to which the Portugues had to be axed.
But the Spaniard has constantly denied this and says he admires his former boss. Speaking on Sky Sports he said, “I have huge respect for him - we still keep in touch right now.”
The playmaker thinks the manager gave too much freedom to his players after they won the league last campaign. “The biggest problem was he trusted us too much, gave us more holiday because we were champions and we let him down.”
The 28-year-old believes he and his teammates were responsible for what happened saying, ”That was the main reason he had to go - and for that myself and the team feel bad for it."
I don't want Tottenham to win the league: Fabregas
Fabregas appeared as a pundit on Sky Sports on Monday and pleased every Arsenal fan after revealing which team he wanted to win the league title. “ Hopefully not, I don’t want Spurs to win it to be honest.”
Leicester City’s story has been nothing short of a fairytale. At this stage last year, the club were in big trouble and were fighting to stay in the Premier League. But now the Foxes find themselves at the top of the league with only 4 games to go.
Their lead was cut to 5 points after Spurs beat Stoke on Monday night but Fabregas is hoping that the Foxes will come through. “For what they’ve done through the season I’d love Leicester to win the Premier League.”
Fabregas on incoming boss Antonio Conte
With Hiddink’s short-term stint coming to an end Chelsea have appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager for next season. The Italian will take over after Euro 2016. The coach famously led Juventus to 3 consecutive League titles and has a good reputation
“That’s what we need.” Fabregas said. “Someone that will always be on our back to push us and make us work hard, teaching us new things; the things he wants to do and achieve. All I know is that he wants to win straight away. No more transition, no more excuses. He wants to win and for that we’ll have to be prepared from day one.” he added.
