Portugal’s Hugo Almeida has joined Serie A newcomers AC Cesena on a free transfer. Almeida, who spent four seasons with Turkish club Besiktas was a free agent after being released by the club at the end of the 2013/14 season and was linked to a transfer to West Ham, Queens Park Rangers and the middle east. He will be presented today to the fans.
Almeida joined Besiktas from Werder Bremen in 2011 and made 108 appearances for the Super Lig outfit and scored 47 times. He is a graduate of the Porto youth academy and had a short stint with the Portuguese club before being loaned to Boavista, Uniao and Werder Bremen.
A muscular injury hindered the forward’s progress at the World Cup as he could play only one match. Almeida is expected to make his Serie A debut on 19 October against Palermo.
