Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote was arrested on the 12th of February near the club’s training ground.
The police arrested the Ivory Coast international and had his car seized after he was suspected of fraud in relation to driving offenses. His car, a Chevrolet Camaro, which is estimated to be worth around $75000, is in police custody.
An official of the Northumbria Police said “At about 1.30pm on February 12, a car was stopped on Benton Park Road, Newcastle, and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences.”
Cheick Tiote had just recently arrived from Africa where he was part the Ivory Coast international team, taking part in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Newcastle had signed Tiote from Dutch side FC twente in 2010.
