Here’s a look at the player ratings for the game.

Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois – 5.5/10

While the Belgian was up to the mark in the first-half, his performance in the second forty-five left a lot to be deserved. He brought down Fernandinho rather clumsily which saw him rightfully sent off for his efforts.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 4.5/10

Cesar Azpilicueta has had better games. He was completely overpowered by Alexander Kolarov all game and offered very litte going forward.

Branislav Ivanovic – 4/10

Branislav Ivanovic looked totally out of sorts at center Back and could do little as Sergio Aguero kept humiliating him and his partner on the night

Gary Cahill – 5/10

Gary Cahill fared better than his partner as he stood up to Aguero on occasion but his wild positioning was the primary point of problems for the Chelsea defense.

Abdul Baba Rahman – 5.5/10

The Ghanaian had his moments in the game as he put in a good shift. While he was troubled a couple of times by Jesus Navas he didn’t really seem out of place in the first team.

Willian – 5.5/10

Willian did produce a moment or two but seemed non-existent most of the time. His lackluster performance made matters worse for an uninspired Chelsea side.

Pedro – 6/10

Pedro looked clueless in the initial stages of the game but grew into it slightly as the half wore on. He failed to impact the game much but gave Pablo Zabaleta some scary moments.

Jon Obi Mikel – 5.5/10

The Nigerian international was sloppy in possession and with his partner hardly putting a shift in, was runover in midfield on more than one occasion.

Cesc Fabregas - 4.5/10

The Spaniard was terrible at times but often kept play ticking for Chelsea. He made a few decent passes but left Chelsea exposed defensively.

Ruben Loftus Cheek – 5.5/10

Ruben Loftus Cheek began brightly but was abysmal in the second half. In the first period he looked at ease with first team duty on him. He didn’t look out of place.

Diego Costa – 6/10

Diego Costa battled hard and was central to everything good that Chelsea did in the opening stages but faded after half time.

Subs:

Kenedy – 5/10

Kenedy seemed to have a bit of spunk around him but couldn’t impact the game majorly after coming on.

Bertrand Traore – 4/10

Bertrand Traore rarely offered anything different to Willian who he replaced.

Asmir Begovic – 3/10

Asmir Begovic could do nothing to save Sergio Aguero’s penalty strike. He had little to do after.

Joe Hart – 7/10

Joe Hart had little to do all game. He made a great save to deny Ruben Loftus-Cheek early on but was rarely troubled thereafter

Alexander Kolarov – 7/10

Alexander Kolarov had a great game considering he wasn’t troubled defensively. He made a great contribution going forward dominating the Chelsea right side with help from Samir Nasri.

Nicolas Otamendi – 7/10

Nicolas Otamendi began nervously as Diego Costa took him on at every opportunity but once he settled into the game, there were no moments he looked much out of sorts.

Eliaquim Mangala – 7/10

Eliaquim Mangala put in an excellent shift on the night after a nervy beginning much like his partner. The Frenchman had a few moments of trouble to deal with which he did rather well.

Pablo Zabaleta – 5.5/10

The Argentine seemed quite out of sorts on the night as Pedro got the better of him on more than one occasion. It seemed very difficult for him to deal with the pace and energy Pedro brought to the table and was eventually substituted.

Fernandinho – 8/10

Fernandinho ran the game at midfield as he kept play ticking and drove forward with confidence with the ball. His run into the box resulted in the penalty that allowed the third goal. The Brazilian overall had a really good game.

Yaya Toure – 7/10

For all his weaknesses, the Cote d'Voire international was hardly put under any pressure all game as he moved forward and passed to his teammates at will. He had a good game as well.

Jesus Navas – 6.5/10

Jesus Navas did well against Baba Rahman with the Spaniard offering great pace and movement which often stretched the Chelsea defense. He was largely anonymous in the second half.

Kevin De Bruyne – 8/10

The Belgian was brilliant all game as he directly assisted the opening goal and was indirectly involved in the second one after a searing run began the Manchester City counter. The Chelsea faithful saw firsthand at what they let go.

Samir Nasri – 8/10

Samir Nasri was impressive as he combined with Alexander Kolarov to continually breach the Chelsea defensive line with ease. He set up the second goal.

Sergio Aguero – 9/10

Sergio Aguero was simply phenomenal. Absolutely buried everything that came at him. Clinical and effervescent performance from the Argentine with a deserved hat-trick.
