David Luiz
Matteo Kovacic started again for Chelsea in central midfield, but was not very impressive. He is a bit too slow for a fast-paced league like the Premier League, and needs to alter his playing style somewhat.

Barkley’s introduction added strength to the Chelsea midfield as he is a faster and more direct player than Kovacic. Kovacic could not see much of the ball, and failed to play any notable pass to Hazard or Pedro.
However, Barkley made some runs into the City penalty box, and it was his shot at goal from outside the penalty box which deflected off a City defender and earned Chelsea the only corner they got in the match.
Luiz out-jumped the City defenders to get his head on the ball, and scored his 16th goal in 216 matches for Chelsea. It must have been the most important goal he has scored in his career till date.
