Chelsea Football Club has endured pain in the last few months since the departure of assistant manager Ray Wilkins. All hopes were lost for the Blues when they suffered their worst run since 15 years ago. Although Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich slapped £50mil on Liverpool’s desk for Fernando Torres, the Spaniard looked toothless when he encountered his former club two weeks back. Two days ago, Chelsea lost to Everton in the FA Cup. It seems that Carlo Ancelotti is on the brink of losing his job. There are, however, ways of wonders that can revive the Champions to their best form once again.
Here are 6 ways for Carlo Ancelotti to save his job come end of the season.
1. Revive Fernando Torres
Since his arrival, the wonders and magic that many Chelsea fans thought he would conjure the minute he steps into the pitch has not happened. Since then, fans from all around the world have started labeling the striker as a flop. I personally think that he needs time. Ancelotti has to discover new ways of training, tactics and everything that might bring back Torres to his old self when he was feared by every defender in Europe. Dealing with him first may be the start of something new for Chelsea. If Torres can combine his ability with the other strikers such as Didier Drogba, then they are on the right track. Some fans might suggest that his gold hair might bring back his golden days although it would look awful with his new blue shirt (a funny way of thinking :P). Rest assured, let’s not forget that on his day, Torres is one of the deadliest strikers in the world. Given time, that day will come soon.
2. Win The Champions LeagueThe end of the season is near and Chelsea have failed to win the Community Shield, The Carling Cup and The FA Cup. While Ancelotti has admitted defeat in the Premier League title race despite the late resurgence, the Champions League remains the holy grail, the trophy that will the redemption for Ancelotti from all the heart-breaks suffered this season. Europe remains Chelsea’s unconquered frontier and conquering it was the reason why Abromovich brought the European master that Ancelotti is, in. If Ancelotti fails, everybody knows what the whimsical Blues owner would do. Given their current form, Chelsea aren’t hot favourites for the trophy and they face a stern test in Manchester United which they must pass in order to progress. But again, nothing is impossible in football.
3. Sell the Oldies
The team needs a new look. Therefore I suggest selling unused players would be the key to reform Chelsea. Although Drogba is over 30 years old, he remains a top contender and has several tricks up his sleeves that should see him last at Stamford Bridge for two more seasons. Players that should be off-loaded are Florent Malouda, Paulo Ferriera, and Ross Turnbull. These players have either reached 30 years of age or are no longer consistent performers to the team. The money from selling these under-performing assets might come in handy for spending on other young and talented players.
4. Bring back the on-loan youngstersOn loan players should be brought back by the end of the season. Players such as Sturridge, Kakuta and Bruma could bolster the squad next season. They need to be given first team action on a regular basis in order for their talents to flow. While Kakuta is still taking his time to blend in at Fulham FC, Sturridge has performed tremendously for Bolton Wanderers scoring 3 goals in 3 games. It’s important for Chelsea to realize that they must start relying on youngsters, for the future of the club lies with these bright talents.
5. New Assistant ManagerSince Ray Wilkins left, Ancelotti looked as though he has lost his true love. His plans and tactics have not worked out well without Wilkins and the whole Chelsea squad seems to be missing something. In order to revive Chelsea, Abramovich has to find a suitable replacement where Ancelotti will find it easier to make crucial tactics and decisions in the future. Rumours has it that Guus Hiddick will return to the Bridge to take up the post. A marvelous choice in my opinion.
6. Spend More! The January transfer window has shown that Roman Abramovich is not afraid to spend as he splashed out £50million for Torres and £25mil for David Luiz and will undoubtedly do it again in the summer. The best buy would be the long targeted Neymar Da Silva. The Santos striker has been targeted by Chelsea for almost a year now and I believe soon Chelsea will have him in the blue shirt soon enough. Anderlecht sensation Romelu Lukaku is still a target for the Blues and will be a hit if he joins Chelsea FC. Although rumour has it that Cesc Fabregas is also a Chelsea target, many believe it would be quite impossible as Fabregas has showed his out-spoken loyalty to Arsenal FC. But who knows, after losing the Carling Cup to Birmingam, blasted out of the Champions League by Barcelona and kicked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United, Fabregas could reconsider his future in England if the move to Barcelona doesn’t materialise. After all, renowned Chelsea-hunter Torres shouted out his loyalty to Liverpool last season and look where he has ended up now. Strange things can happen in football!
