Former Chelsea player Joe Reay loses his life after getting hit by a taxi

A graduate from the Chelsea Football Academy, 20-year-old Joe Reay lost his life after he was involved in an accident in Woodham Lane on November 1.

According to Mirror, Joe had attended a dinner the night before his death which was organized by his club, Woking FC where British boxing legend Frank Bruno was also present as their special guest.

Joe was hit by a taxi who has been released on bail as the investigation continues. Joe had moved to Conference Premier side Woking FC from Chelsea where his father, Kelvin Reay is one of the directors.

Following the incident, the club had released a statement saying, “It is with great sadness that Woking Football Club has today learned of the untimely passing of Joe Reay, son of Director Kelvin Reay.”

“The club offers its deepest condolences to the Reay family at this difficult time. Joe was a respected member of Woking's Academy.”

Another Woking FC director Peter Jordan, who is also said to be very close to the Reay family said, "I last saw him on the Friday evening at the sportsman's dinner with Frank Bruno and then heard in the morning he had died.”

"He was going to Chelsea on the Saturday, with his dad Kelvin who is a season ticket holder,” he adds. "Joe would have turned 21 this month and his dad planned to send him and his mates to Vegas - it is just terrible.”
