Inter Milan have set Manchester United and Chelsea on red alert, by refusing to bow down to midfielder Esteban Cambiasso’s wage demands. The midfielder’s lucrative contract expires at the end of the season, but with a new wage structure in place at the club the Argentine will have to take a large drop in wages if he is to stay.
The Mirror claim that this has alerted both Manchester United and Chelsea to his availability, with the pair readying summer moves to bring Cambiasso to the Premier League.
Cambiasso currently earns a whopping £3.7 million per year at Inter, but will not be offered similar terms by the Italian side. New owner Erick Thohir has put a new wage structure in place at the club, meaning that no player will be offered a yearly wage above £2.07 million.
The 33-year-old has been at Inter for 10 years, and is not reported to be keen on a move. With news of interest from Manchester United, and from former boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, the midfielder looks set to have to decide between a lucrative move away from Inter and staying at the club on a lower wage.
