Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole took a thinly veiled swipe at Blues boss Jose Mourinho on Twitter last night, making clear his frustration at his lack of game time this season. When complemented on his performance by a fan, the England left back responded by telling his followers not to get used to seeing him in the team, hinting at his disdain at finding himself on the sidelines.
Cole has made just 12 starts in the Premier League this season under Jose Mourinho and has often seen right-back Cesar Azpilicueta preferred to him on the left. Former Arsenal man Cole has recently had a run of four games in Mourinho’s Premier League eleven, due to an injury to Branislav Ivanovic, but looks set to return to the bench with Ivanovic back amongst the Chelsea squad.
The England left-back exhibited a bit of gallows humour at his situation with his twitter response to complements on his cup performance against Stoke City yesterday, leading to questions over his future at the club.
Cole is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and, despite rarely playing him, Mourinho has hinted that he will be offered a new deal. However with Cole frustrated at a lack of playing time it remains to be seen whether the 33 year old will be plying his trade at Chelsea next season.
