The U-19 Chelsea FC team emerged 3-2 victors over U-19 Shakhtar Donetsk in Nyon, Switzerland to clinch the UEFA Youth League trophy. The Shakhtar youth squad were undefeated in the competition till their defeat against the young Blues in the final. In fact, the Shakhtar youth side had come from behind to win three of their knockout clashes in the run-up to the final.
The 2014-15 edition of the UEFA Youth League was only the second edition of the competition. Barcelona were the winners in 2013-14 but failed to make it past the quarter-finals this time around.
U-19 Chelsea FC Captain Isaiah Brown scored the opener in the seventh minute to put his side ahead. Following a short spell of Chelsea dominance, Shakhtar began to get a foothold in the game, resulting in Andreas Christensen slicing the ball into his own goal from Denys Arendaruk's ball to put both sides on level terms at half-time.
Within ten minutes of the second half, Chelsea were two goals ahead, courtesy of a header from the league’s top scorer Dominic Solanke (12 goals in 9 games) and a strike from just inside the box for Izzy Brown.
Victor Kovalenko's injury time strike for Shakhtar meant that Brown’s second goal of the night would prove to be the decisive one for the London club.
