Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho took a rare moment to praise his strikers in the wake of the Stamford Bridge outfit’s 2-0 Champions League quarter final win over Paris Saint-Germain, telling reporters that goal hero Demba Ba reminded him of Didier Drogba.
The former West Ham and Newcastle forward scored the crucial second goal, which ensured that Chelsea progressed due to away goals following a 3-1 first leg defeat, before chipping in at the other end as Mourinho’s men saw the game out.
“His contribution was massive in the game,” said Mourinho of Ba.
“After (the goal) he was fantastic. Fantastic central defender.
“He reminded me a bit of Didier in the old times when we needed him (in defence) in the last minutes.
Mourinho had thrown caution to the wind as Chelsea chased the tie, putting on Ba and Fernando Torres alongside Samuel Eto’o as the home side pushed forward.
However the late goal by Ba meant that his side had to close the game out with an array of attacking players on the pitch, leading Mourinho to praise Torres as well as Ba.
“Nando playing right back and chasing Maxwell all the way. Fantastic spirit,” he concluded.
Ba won four headed duels in his 25 minutes of action on Tuesday night.
