Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Belgian shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois will return to Stamford Bridge this summer after completing a long loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
“When the World Cup in Brazil is over, Courtois will be coming straight back to Stamford Bridge – end of story,” Mourinho told the media.
Chelsea signed Thibaut Courtois from the Belgian club Genk in 2011 and immediately sent him on loan to Atletico Madrid. The loan spell at the Spanish club turned out to be a fruitful one for the goalkeeper as he established himself as a hot prospect.
After his successful 2013-14 campaign as he helped Atletico Madrid to win the Spanish La Liga tilte, the Belgian International has been in high demand seeking interests from various clubs.
Courtois also said that he will be happy to be at Chelsea provided he is given regular first team action.
He said, “I want to be the No.1 wherever I play next season. Yes, I think with my age and the performances I want to play. To be on the bench is not the nicest thing.”
As Mourinho has confirmed Courtois’ return, there are considerable doubts over Petr Cech’s future at Chelsea.
Mourinho also denied any reports stating Ramires’ move away from the London club. There were reports stating that Real Madrid has made a £27 million move for Brazilian midfielder Ramires.
But, the Chelsea boss clearly said, “Ramires is staying at Chelsea, he’s not for sale. I have a great relationship with important people at Real Madrid and they know that Ramires is going to stay at Chelsea.”
