Chelsea criticized by Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo for the delay in resolving Thibaut Courtois' future

Thibaut Courtois’ future still not resolved

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has criticised Chelsea for delaying talks with Thibaut Courtois over his future, as reported by the Express.

Cerezo would prefer to extend Courtois’ loan deal for a further year but cannot fully prepare for life without the 22-year-old until Chelsea instate him as their new no. 1 shot-stopper.

He told reporters: “There’s a little problem, which is Chelsea.

“I imagine if Chelsea wants him to stay for the season, they’ll keep him and if not, it’s best if we reach an agreement, which is to keep him with us for another season.”

Diego Costa is thought to be on the precipice of signing for the London club, amid reports that the Spain international completed a medical earlier in the week. When questioned on the speculation, Cerezo offered an ambiguous response.

He said: “Players play where they want to play and if there’s a player who is under contract and wants to play for another team, they already know what they need to do, activate their release clause and leave.

“The transfers are going very well, but I won’t name any names, because then the player gets nervous and they leave with a bad feeling.

“For right now, Diego Costa is our player. He’s with the national team and when a player is with the national team you can’t bother him, we can’t say anything and he has to focus on himself, in playing with the Spanish national team.

“We have not spoken with him.

The La Liga champions recently signed Granada left-back, adding further fuel to the fire that Filipe Luis is set to follow Diego Costa to Stamford Bridge.

Cerezo said: “Siqueira is a great player, a great player. I know that he is a very good player who we were very interested in and we’ll see how he does.”

Continuing their raid on Atletico, Jose Mourinho is also thought to be in discussions regarding the sale of Portuguese midfielder Tiago, who would be available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract.
