With all the focus on the fact that we did not sign Wayne Rooney during this transfer window, it seems to have slipped under the radar that we have bought a world class striker into the squad with a proven track record at the highest stage.
With all the fuss over Rooney, you may have forgotten that we signed Samuel Eto’o with a couple of days left in the window.
He may be 32 but Chelsea have done well with strikers in the twilight of their careers. Eto’o could still have a season or two where he can provide a real spark.
Whilst his star may have waned slightly with a move to Anzhi, there is little doubt of his pedigree, having played at the highest level of European football for Barcelona and Inter Milan.
He is a striker that has scored consistently wherever he has gone to, winning league and European titles in Spain and Italy with the distinction of scoring in two Champions League finals, a competition he has won on three occasions.
As strikers go, you could not find a bigger name and having worked with him at Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho will know everything he needs to about the Cameroonian international.
Competing with Torres and Demba Ba, we could see Eto’o quickly become the first choice striker at the club and make a real impact in the Premier League.
He may not have cost £50m but he is a class act and I think we should be excited.
