Chelsea fans: ‘To buy or not to buy?’

After the heavy spending in the current summer transfer window, I can see a mixed reaction from many Chelsea fans. They are delighted to see the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin come to the club but at the same time they are worried about the future of our youth. Over the past few years Chelsea has been very successful in the FA youth cup, winning it 2 times in 3 years. As a result there is a huge list of talented players waiting to get a chance in the first team. The players who left the club after lack of opportunities, like Fabio Borini and Scott Sinclair, are really impressing with their performance. This leads to the question whether we should buy players or give our youth the opportunity to come into the first team.

Chelsea now has players like McEachran, Piazon, Kakuta, Chalobah ,George Saville among several young players who deserve an opportunity to play for the first team. However with the likes of Lampard, Mata, Malouda, Mikel, Essien, Meireles, Ramires along with new purchases like Hazard, Marin, de Bruyne, Lamisha Musonda, Tika Musonda and maybe even Oscar, the midfield looks really crowded now.

There have been suggestions that we should offload some old players. However, I believe that it is not the ideal solution. Money can buy everything, but experience is the most important thing for a title worthy team. We should look at this new situation in a positive light. Last year what Chelsea missed was the lack of depth in the squad. We found it really difficult to compete on all three fronts. With some players in our midfield having an indifferent form, we really wished for more and better midfielders. After these recent transfers, our wish has finally come true. With such quality and depth in the midfield we can now go and try for the only thing left to be achieved – The Treble . Now the squad can be rotated without any compromise in the quality of the starting 11. McEachran and co. can be given starts in the Carling cup and FA cup while Lampard, Essien, Malouda can lead our EPL and Champions league campaign. This way the youth will get an opportunity to develop and the senior players can contribute with their invaluable experience.

In a club like Chelsea where success is very important for Abramovich , we have to buy players to achieve the perfect mix of youth and experience. Its up to the RDM to rotate the players, so that both the youth and the seniors are used properly and achieve our dream of winning a treble!
