With the transfer window now officially opened, Chelsea are being linked with moves for the Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.
According to Spanish website AS, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to pay €30million to secure the Argentina international’s services as the west London club look to add to their options in attack.
With Daniel Sturridge transferred to Liverpool, Chelsea’s frontline has been further diminished, leaving Fernando Torres as the only real option up front.
Radamel Falcao was the prime target for the Blues, but any chances of landing the prolific Atletico Madrid striker have been dimished, with the Colombian international saying he would definitely stay with the Spanish club until the end of the season.
The striker, who turns 25 tomorrow, has not always been first choice – Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo often start ahead of him.
Chelsea are also on the lookout for a left-back with Ashley Cole, who has only been offered a one-year deal to stay, expected to leave at the end of the season.
