Frank Lampard is poised to make a shocking comeback to the Premier League earlier than most anticipated.
In a recent turn of events that is sure to upset a whole host of Chelsea fans, the England international and Chelsea legend is seeking a short-term deal to join Chelsea’s fierce championship rivals Manchester City on loan from New York, according to reports.
The England international signed for new MLS side New York City FC earlier in the summer, after he was not offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
However, with the new MLS season due to kick-off in March, 2015, Lampard and New York City have been looking to arrange a short-term loan deal to keep the 36-year old in the ebb and flow of competitive football.
City, meanwhile, will also take this opportunity to add some much needed experience amongst their ranks. This will also add to their number, of home grown talents that they can register for the Premier League.
During his time at the Bridge, Lampard scored 211 goals for Chelsea; in the process, becoming Chelsea’s highest ever goal-scorer, beating the record set by Bobby Tambling at 203.
He also won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Europa League and four FA Cups with the Blues.
City hope to have Lampard in training with them upon their return from pre-season action in the United States.
