Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is not finished in the transfer market as he is preparing to target Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, despite all-but completing Diego Costa’s transfer, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports suggest that Costa is on the verge of completing his move to Chelsea but that has not stopped Mourinho, who is seeking more improvements in the goal scoring department at the club.
There was a severe lack of goals from his three main striker last season. Samuel Eto’o, who has now left, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, who could also both leave, were disappointing in front of goal last season, combining to score fewer than 20 Premier League goals.
Mandzukic, who has been linked with Arsenal, scored 18 goals in 30 Bundesliga matches for German champions Bayern Munich last season. He has led their line over the past couple of years, helping them to a string of trophies, but his future is in doubt as Robert Lewandowski is joining the club this summer.
He signed a pre-contract agreement earlier in the season as his deal with Borussia Dortmund expired following the season’s end. His arrival means Mandzukic could be on his way out of the club, which would fall nicely into Jose Mourinho’s plans.
