An explosion had broken out at a coal mine in the western Turkish town of Soma, Turkey after a fire sent lethal gases coursing through the mine, resulting in one of the worst industrial disasters in the country.
According to CNN, the search-rescue for the disaster victims was over, with the final death toll standing at 301.
“I am a U.N. ambassador of goodwill and I will do all that I can to help the people in Soma,” the Cote d’Ivoire international told reporters. “But I don’t want anyone to use my name. I’m not someone who will promote himself in such issues. I don’t need this sort of a self-promotion.”
Earlier this week, Galatasaray players paid their tribute to the 301 victims ahead of their match against Kayseri Erciyesspor at Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex as they took to the field wearing helmets.
