Chelsea linked with Falcao

Falcao

According to reports, Chelsea are interested in signing Monaco forward Falcao for around £60 million.

Apparently Jose Mourinho will travel to watch Falcao play against Belgium before deciding on whether to spend Roman Abramovich’s cash on the Columbian.

Falcao signed for money-bags Monaco in the summer in a deal worth £50m, leaving Atletico Madrid in the process but still has his admirers. Last season, the Columbian destroyed Chelsea, scoring a hat-trick in the Super Cup final.

Real Madrid were said to be interested in signing the South American but Chelsea are now looking likely to step up their interest as Mourinho aims to sign a top-class striker to lead his forward line.

Chelsea currently have just Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba as first-choice strikers so Mourinho will be desperate to sign another striker in January.

Mourinho has an exciting array of attacking talent at his disposal with the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Andre Schurrle in the ranks but he is still missing the final piece of the jigsaw to play ahead of those players.

After failing to sign anyone notable in the summer, the Portuguese coach plumped for Eto’o in a cheap deal, but he is not the player he once was.

Falcao is eligible for the Champions League, too, which is another attractive aspect of the deal should Chelsea pursue it.
