Chelsea linked with move for Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso

If reports are true, Jose Mourinho will make a move to sign Xabi Alonso on a free transfer from Real Madrid next summer!

Alonso has hardly featured for Real Madrid this season so far after returning from injury and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he is able to sign a pre contract agreement with other clubs.

This report here states that Chelsea would be willing to hand Alonso a three year contract.

It’s without question the ability he has passing the ball but I question his defensive abilities. How often do we see him pick up silly bookings!

You would have to imagine that Mourinho would want him to play a similar role to that of Frank Lampard at the moment next to Ramires. Alonso is five years younger than Frank being only 31 so has a couple of good years left in him.

Does his ability to pass a ball and the fact he would be available for nothing outweigh any defensive frailties he has?
