Manchester United and Chelsea are set to miss out as Bayern Munich’s central midfielder Toni Kroos is set to move to Real Madrid, according to the Daily Express.
Kroos will resist a move to the Premier League, having decided that he would prefer a move to Carlo Ancelotti’s Champions League winners.
Both Premier League sides would like to Kroos, but Spanish newspaper Marcais reporting that Kroos wants to play in La Liga once he has left the Bundesliga.
New Manchester United managed Louis van Gaal is keen to strengthen his midfield during the summer. Having missed out on new Chelsea signing Cesc Fabregas, he had made Toni Kroos his number one target.
Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are also keen on the German, but is prepared to wait until his contract with Bayern expires at the end of the coming season.
They are both set to find themselves empty-handed, however, with Real Madrid seemingly winning the race to Kroos’ signature. Madrid will, however, have to wait until next summer to sign the playmaker.
Toni Kroos made 36 key passes for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season.
