Demba Ba ended his 18-month stay at Stamford Bridge last week when he finalized a €6m move to Turkish giants Besiktas.
Now, the ex-Newcastle man has claimed that fellow Stamford Bridge misfit, Chelsea’s German midfielder Marko Marin, also wants to join him at the club, according to reports in Turkey.
Marin was brought to London by Chelsea in 2012 on a five year deal from Werder Bremen. However, the dimunitive German midfielder has failed to establish himself in the EPL. The German international made only six starts for Chelsea in all competitions, in his first season and was subsequently sent on loan to La Liga side Sevilla last season.
Marin enjoyed team success with Sevilla last season, winning the Europa League, but on an individual front, his successes remained limited. The attacking midfielder scored only two goals for the Andalusian clubs in only 14 starts.
Speaking to Turkish newspaper Yeni ?afak, Ba said: “Marin called me after my transfer to Besiktas,”
“He told me Besiktas were also interested in him and that he would like to play alongside me. Chelsea are probably going to loan him out again so this is definitely something that could happen.”
“It would be an advantage for me as we have trained together and would help the settling in process.”
Marin now returns to Stamford Bridge to an even more crowded midfield. The centre of the park, which couldn’t accommodate Juan Mata now has Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, and the returning Oriol Romeu added to the cause.
Thus a move away from London looks likely on the cards for the German. Whether it will be to Besiktas or any other club, is a different matter all together.
