Breaking the bank?

What’s the story?

Antonio Conte's is not happy with just two strikers in the squad and has asked the club to sign him one more in January. With the recent injury to Michy Batshuayi, the board has made this their top priority and are determined to sign a world class striker for any cost!

As per reports in The Sun, Chelsea are set to make a stunning £100 million bid for Mauro Icardi. The Inter Milan captain has been a target for The Blues for some time now and they believe they can sign him up in the coming transfer window.

In case you didn’t know...

The Chelsea board were ordered by Conte to sign a third striker in the summer, but they failed to do so. With the recent sale of Diego Costa, they have enough funds to sign a world class striker in January.

The heart of the matter

League leaders Manchester City are nine points ahead of Chelsea, but Antonio Conte has not given up hopes of pulling off another miracle. The Blues went on a 13-game winning streak last season and the manager hopes to replicate the same this season as well.

He needs another striker for it and has identified Icardi as the ideal one. The Argentine possess the same qualities as Alvaro Morata and is now the top target for Chelsea.

Apart from the Premier League champions, Real Madrid are also keen on signing him. The Argentine is seen as the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema but Los Blancos are not willing to pay £100 million for him.

Author’s Take

Icardi would be a great signing for Chelsea and could be the most important signing of the season. But it is difficult to see Inter Milan selling him right now as they are trying to finish in the top 4 in Serie A, and make it to the UEFA Champions League once again.
