Marko Marin has completed a season-long move to Trabzonspor from Chelsea, according to a confirmation on Chelsea’s official website. The attacking midfielder reportedly joined the six-time Turkish champions for a reported fee of €2.5 million, with the agreement between the two clubs including an option to purchase the player at the end of the season.
Marin was already in Turkey to complete his medical with Trabzonspor, and this was confirmed by the club’s sporting director Suleyman Hurma during an interview with Lig TV earlier in the week. After undergoing his medical with the Black Sea Storm and putting pen-to-paper on a deal, the German was officially unveiled by the club.
Chelsea also posted a statement on their official website to confirm the loan, which read: "Marko Marin has today joined Trabzonspor on loan for the duration of the season. The winger will spend the 2015-16 campaign on loan in Turkey and the agreement includes an option to purchase."
Chelsea signed Marko Marin on a five-year-contract from Werder Bremen in 2012, but the 26-year-old failed to make any real impact in his four years at the club. Despite being a member of the 2013 Europa League winning squad, he only made six Premier League appearances for the club with his last appearance coming in 2013. The recent loan at Trabszonspor will be his fourth consecutive spell away from the Stamford Bridge, having already played for Sevilla, Fiorentina and Anderlecht from 2013 to 2015 without much success.
The German is still contracted to Chelsea till 2017, but his future with the Blues looks to be coming to an end due to increased competition for places and general quality of the squad. He joins Juan Cuadrado as the other loan move away from the Bridge, as Chelsea continue to trim their squad to make way for new signings.
Trabzonspor are currently joint first in the Turkish League after registering victories in their first two games of the campaign. The loan signing of Marin adds to an already strong Trabzonspor squad which has been strengthened by the signings of Lazio defender Cavanda, Turkish midfielder Okay Yoku?lu, Hull City striker Dame N’Doye and Sevilla’s Cameroonian defensive midfielder Stephane Mbia, who won the Europa League with the La Liga side for two consecutive seasons.?
They have also signed a new coach in the summer transfer window, replacing Ersun Yanal with Georgian manager Shota Arveladze.
