Chelsea have revealed that contract talks are ongoing with Frank Lampard. The midfielder’s contract ends in the summer, and he has been linked to various clubs.
The former West Ham player has been in superb form this season, netting 11 goals from 19 appearances.
“Discussions are ongoing and must be kept confidential at this stage,” confirmed Gourlay, Chelsea’s chief executive at a press conference at the Renaissance Hotel in Bangkok.
The fans and the players want the 34-year-old to stay at the club despite links from Italy, China and the MLS.
Lampard was outstanding at a recent international friendly, and he also scored a goal in that match. England manager Roy Hodgson indicated that he would prefer to see Lampard remain in England.
Manchester United were also interested in the player, which could have been the reason for re-negotiating a contract, as Chelsea wouldn’t want their most decorated player to end his career with one of their rivals.
