What's the news?
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta believes that beating Manchester City in the Football League Cup final could bring the Blues' season back on track.
In case you didn't know...
Problems keep on growing for Chelsea as they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United in the FA Cup yesterday. It was the Blues' fourth defeat in the last eight games in all competitions, putting question marks on Maurizio Sarri's future at the club.
The London-based club are currently sixth in the Premier League table and are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season if their form keeps deteriorating at the same rate.
However, they can still win a trophy this season and will face Manchester City in the final of the Football League Cup on February 24. The Blues were annihilated 6-0 by the Cityzens when they faced each other in the league earlier this month, and will be looking forward to revenging their humiliation.
The heart of the matter
Cesar Azpilicueta believes Chelsea's season is going to be defined over the next few days and beating Manchester City could bring their season back on track.
He said (via Goal):
"Hopefully we can have a good nine days. It's the whole season". "We know that a trophy in the middle is everything, to bring the fans back to Wembley with the spirit to get the Cup."
He also reveals what the Blues did wrong in their 6-0 defeat against Manchester City earlier this month.
"We didn't put Manchester in difficulties even at 2-0 down". "We were not very good in the final metres, so we paid [for] that. And at the end we couldn't score."
What's next?
Chelsea will go up against Malmo FF for the second leg of the Europa League round-of-32 tie next before squaring off against Manchester City for the final of the Football League Cup on February 24.
