What's the story?

Eden Hazard, who has been the Chelsea's best performer this season, has claimed in the post-match interview following the Blues' dramatic win over Tottenham, that he is absolutely delighted by his club's capture of Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.

In what seems like a sly dig at Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata, he also said that Chelsea have missed having a proper striker since Diego Costa left and that Higuain is definitely the player who can fill the void left by Costa, who departed two years ago.

In case you didn't know...

Gonzalo Higuain holds the Serie A record for most goals in a single season, scoring 36 goals in 35 games playing under Maurizio Sarri in 2015-16.

Eden Hazard is having the season of his life at the Stamford Bridge, despite starting out of position as a 'false-nine' on multiple occasions.

The heart of the matter...

Higuain's move to the Stamford Bridge and a reunion with Maurizio Sarri was one of the hottest topics in the transfer market.

After much deliberation, the striker has finally joined the club and it is expected that Sarri will play him in their FA Cup fixture on Sunday.

After Chelsea defeated Tottenham on penalties to reach the final of EFL Cup, Hazard was interviewed post-match, where he said that he is happy to see Higuain at the club and looks forward to pairing up with him in Chelsea's attack.

He said:

“For me as a winger, you know I like to play with top players. With Chelsea I had the chance to play with one of the best in Diego Costa for three years and I think Higuain is one of the best."

He praised his current strike partner Olivier Giroud as a team player, but had no kind words for Alvaro Morata and also said that Higuain is the first proper striker at the club since Costa.

He continued:

"We all know that I like to play the give and go with my striker, so if the striker just goes deep, I am going to be in trouble, but Giroud understands this, that’s why I like to play with him."
"I think Higuain is this kind of player and he can also link with the wingers and the midfield, but he can also be the proper striker[like Costa]."

What's next?

Higuain is expected to make his official debut this weekend in the FA Cup fixture against Sheffield Wednesday.

His arrival means that Belgium international Hazard can now move back to his natural position on the left wing and may prove to be even more lethal than he already has been this season.
