What's the story?
Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has provided his view on his side's disheartening 2-2 draw against Sheffield United. Abraham rued the Blues' second-half performance, stating that they mustn't allow other teams to come and play with as much freedom at Stamford Bridge.
Besides that, the forward also took responsibility for not being able to knock the stuffing out of the visitors after having claimed a two-goal advantage.
In case you didn't know...
Frank Lampard and co. summed up their games before the international break with a draw against Sheffield, after having gone 2-0 up before half time. A goal from Callum Robinson halved the deficit early on in the second half, before an 89th minute equalizer through a Kurt Zouma own goal rubbed salt in Chelsea's wounds.
With just five points from four games, including no victories at home, the management has a lot to think about and alter post international break.
The only silver lining for them however, was Tammy Abraham, who after the penalty miss against Liverpool in the Super Cup, has responded with four goals in just two games.
The heart of the matter
Abraham reviewed the late sting in the tail caused by Chris Wilder's men, claiming:
"We are all disappointed with this draw. We’re Chelsea and no team should be able to come here and play better than us, and Sheffield United were better than us in the second half. It wasn’t good enough from all of us. I take responsibility as well being one of the players out there."
He further continued:
"We were gifted two goals in the first half and from there we should have killed the game off, come out in the second half and upset the opposition. We know Sheffield United will always fight till the end."
Abraham concluded:
"We should have frustrated them, but them scoring an early goal in the second half didn’t help. From there we had to relax, calm everything down, and go out there and win the game. It just wasn’t our day."
What's next?
Abraham will be tasked with carrying the goal-scoring burden on his shoulders further, when Wolves host Chelsea on September 14.
