Negotiations between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are becoming increasingly strained over the transfer of Diego Costa as both parties refuse to meet each other’s demands.
The Spanish striker, who featured in his sides’ 5-1 mauling at the hands of Netherlands last night, is set to move to West London after the World Cup after reportedly undergoing a medical before heading to Brazil. However, Belgian frontman Romelu Lukaku won’t be heading in the opposite direction as part of the big money deal according to Marca.
It’s unclear of what the future holds for Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at Everton, despite impressing at Goodison Park but Chelsea are unwilling to let him move to the Spanish capital, as part of the Costa deal. His compatriot Thibaut Courtois won’t be part of a deal either as Jose Mourinho looks to him as the club’s future number one but discussions over capturing Felipe Luis and Thiago have suffered as a result with Atletico remaining unwavering.
Chelsea aren’t prepared to pay anything over the £32 million release free for Costa or the £25 million for Luis and as a result won’t listen to any suggestions of Courtois or Lukaku as a deal maker. The signing of Cesc Fabregas on Thursday may mean Mourinho will end his interest in Costa and Thiago, who would be available on a free transfer.
