FC Barcelona lied about Philippe Coutinho's quoted price of €200 million
Guillem Balague, Sky Sports' expert, has today revealed that Liverpool had not quoted a €200 million price for Philippe Coutinho on deadline day. Barcelona had made that claim after failing to secure Coutinho in the summer transfer period. Balague revealed, "Regarding the alleged €200m (£183m) demand from Liverpool - Liverpool always denied they had said that and they insisted day one that Coutinho was not for sale. That is 100 per cent true. Barcelona said that someone from Liverpool told them 'we can start talking from the €200m (£183m) mark'. That is not totally true. Liverpool never said that."
Lionel Messi's contract extension update
With Barcelona's talisman entering his final year of his current deal, tension has increased among the fan base about their favourite player's future. But Sky Sports has revealed that an agreement has been reached with the club and Messi's father with an announcement imminent in September.
The board thought of delaying the official statement regarding Messi's extension because of the transfer window but with the market now being closed, an announcement is expected in the coming days.
