Chelsea ready to make £48m bid for Falcao

According to rumors in the Spanish media, Chelsea has placed a £48m bid on Atletico Madrid’s ace striker Radamel Falcao, who has been one of the top forwards in La Liga this season along with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Falcao was Manchester City‘s reported target but they are not going for him until they offload any of the four powerhouses – Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko or Aguero.

This means that Chelsea is on the verge of getting Falcao for a record price. But Atletico are very desperate and need Falcao to remain in La Liga till the end of the season. The striker is already on an impressive 9 goal streak which makes him a key target for Premier League clubs.

He scored 36 goals last season and has been impressive in front of the goal. The Colombian started with River Plate in Argentina and moved to Porto before settling in Atletico Madrid last season.

If Falcao moves to Chelsea, finally the immense pressure on Fernando Torres would be removed. Eden Hazard and Oscar, with Falcao added, would provide a remarkable composure to the team.

Robert Di Matteo has a habit of playing only one striker at a time in the starting 11. The addition of Falcao to the team would relieve Torres of match fatigue. Falcao’s move to Chelsea might see the end of Daniel Sturridge’s career at Chelsea. In 2011, Falcao said: “There is a club that I dream to play for. They are foreign but I do not want to say who it is now. The Spanish league is good, but I prefer the Premier League as there is a better atmosphere on the field. I have matured in every respect and I am qualified to play in a big league. I never thought I would score so many goals. It has been a surprise for me and I have benefited from the quality that we have in our team.”
