Chelsea set to lose £30 million if they sack Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho sack Chelsea
Jose Mourinho will be compensated pretty well even if Chelsea give him the boot

Chelsea might have to rethink their stance on Jose Mourinho as the club will end up losing £30 million if they kick him out now, according to Mirror. The Portuguese manager recently signed a deal with the club that will see him stay at Stamford Bridge until 2019, and any action the club decides to take before that time will see them lose a significant amount of money.

The manager, who is under pressure for his team's performance, only added to his worries after West Ham defeated his side 2-1 on Saturday and then losing to Stoke City in the Capital One Cup. Mourinho is also facing charges from the FA after he was sent to the stands for his misconduct with referee Jon Moss.

While the club did say they would stick by Mourinho earlier this month, it won’t be surprising if they change their stance considering the Blues’ performances in all competitions so far this season. They are currently sitting 15th in the league table and don’t seem likely to ascend the ladder anytime soon.

The 52-year-old had signed a deal last May that saw him earn a whopping £8.5 million-a-year after he won the Capital One Cup and the Premier League. The deal was intended to keep the two-time Champions League winner at the club till 2019 during which time he would help Chelsea become a super club similar to Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Chelsea in danger of missing out on top 4

While the Portuguese manager would have been looking to defend his title at the start of the season, the shocking run of results puts the club in a precarious position, where they would be fortunate to even qualify for the Champions League. Mourinho’s side face Liverpool next in the league and they will have to try and get all three points from the match, as a loss to Jurgen Klopp could force the management to make a decision.

The stats are also piled against the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager as no team in the Premier League have secured a top four finish after picking up just 11 points from the first 10 games.

Mourinho, who had already left Chelsea once in 2007 after falling out of favour with owner Roman Abramovich, was given a compensation package that was valued at £18 million. The manager will be seeing at least £10 million more this time around if it comes to that.
