Chelsea are set to hijack Manchester United’s move for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Mail.
Shaw’s future has been the subject of debate for a number of months, with a number of clubs chasing the Southampton defenders signature. Manchester United were reportedly set to sign Shaw last week, however, the move has yet to come reach its conclusion. Instead, United tied down one of their own left-backs in Patrice Evra, with the Frenchman signing a one-year contract extension.
It is now thought that Shaw is thinking twice about completing a £27 million move to United, considering that he may not be a regular at Old Trafford. That has prompted interest from Chelsea, who have been keeping tabs on Shaw for a number of months.
Shaw is a Chelsea fan which could provide the Blues with an advantage and after Jose Mourinho managed to sell David Luiz for £50 million to Paris Saint-Germain, the west London outfit are not struggling for finances.
Mourinho is tempted to lure the 18-year-old to the club, particularly after Ashley Cole confirmed that he was leaving the club in the summer which leaves just Cesar Azpilicueta as the only real first-team left-back, with Bertrand also expected to depart in the summer.
