Chelsea Football Club have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Filipe Luis. The transfer fee agreed, for the services of Luis, is believed to be in the region of £20 million.
He is yet to agree personal terms and undergo a medical with Chelsea, but that should merely be a formality with no difficulties expected.
Chelsea’s need for a left-back and transfer season so far
Chelsea have been interested in the services of a left-back for some time now, having been left short in that position last season. Ashley Cole, who was a brilliant servant to the club, fell out of favour with the manager after a few patchy performances. This led to Cesar Azpilicueta, predominantly right-footed, filling in at the left-back position for much of last season.
The 28-year old becomes the 4th signing for Chelsea this summer, after Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Mario Pasalic. He will, without doubt, slot into the team straight away and is part of the exciting revolution taking place at the Stamford Bridge club.
While there have been a few coming in, there are a few departing as well. David Luiz has already been sold to French club Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £50 million. And it is believed that Demba Ba is also surplus to requirements, with Chelsea reportedly having agreed a fee close to £8 million for the Senegalese striker with Turkish club Besiktas.
