French international forward Loic Remy has completed a move believed to be worth £10.5million from Queens Park Rangers to Chelsea this afternoon after completing a successful medical at Stamford Bridge, the Blues announced.
Remy put pen to paper on a four-year deal earlier today after spending last season on loan at Newcastle United, where he was the highest scorer for the magpies with 14 goals in the Premier League.
Chelsea had turned their eyes on to the French international after it was made known a couple of days back that Fernando Torres would be joining AC Milan two days back. Jose Mourinho had said that the Blues would require at least three forwards
Remy had been the subject of immense transfer speculation this summer after it was made known that he would not return to Newcastle after spending a fruitful season in the North-East. The Frenchman was in fact very close to signing for Liverpool earlier this summer before a reportedly failed medical scuppered the deal in its final stride.
However, this move means that Chelsea will have to offload one of their foreign stars to fit in their quota of home grown players.
Remy sounded really excited at having joined the Blues. In an interview to the club website, the Frenchman said: “I feel very happy and very proud. When I heard Chelsea wanted to sign me I said “let’s go” straight away because they are one of the best clubs in the world. I remember the amazing atmosphere at Stamford Bridge when I played there for Marseille and I can’t wait to play for the first time in front of my new fans.”
