Chelsea striker Demba Ba admits he's likely to leave Chelsea in summer

Chelsea’s hero from midweek Demba Ba has been speaking about his future with the close season fast approaching. Ba has confirmed that it’s looking like his future beyond this season lies elsewhere.

Having hardly featured for Chelsea at all this season, he popped up once again with yet another big goal to take us through. How many times has he come on and got an all important goal for us? You have to feel sorry for him here.

He said: “It’s highly likely I won’t be at Chelsea, I haven’t yet made my decision.

It did me good, because I haven’t had great times this year, the chance to have fun, but I try to make do with what I’m given.

I have a special relationship with my two rivals with regard to all that has been said about us in the papers, that Chelsea needs strikers. That makes us more determined, and we’re more united to show that Chelsea has three very good strikers. But we don’t have anything to prove to Mourinho.”

As I said, I have to feel for Ba and his time at Chelsea. He came in when Fernando Torres was struggling and made an instant impact with his movement and his goals and it looked as though he would go on to become a first team regular. Looking at where he is now, it’s obvious that he was kept here as cover when Romelu Lukaku was allowed to leave.

Being harsh and honest (and in saying so I mean nothing personal to the player himself), Demba Ba just isn’t really a Chelsea player is he? It sounds arrogant and horrible to say that about one of our own players who has scored really important goals, but it is the truth.

Demba Ba in my eyes is a Premier League player but for teams that play to his strengths and abilities. You look at the success he had at Newcastle and that’s a perfect example. He became the focal point of their attacks, at Chelsea there is no focal point and that’s hampered Ba’s progress. You could even argue the same about Torres and why he has continued to struggle here.

I have said it all along that Ba will leave the club in the summer because he has spent 95% of this season on the bench. He is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and will plenty of suitors looking to sign him.

When he does leave, he will always be remembered for the times that he has either come on or when he has started and made such an important contribution. It’s just a shame it’s never been as often has he would have wanted.
