Chelsea are considering an offer of £12.5 million for Schalke teen sensation Max Mayer according to reports in the German publication Bild. The 18 year old German came on as a late sub at Stamford Bridge when the German team lost 3-0 to the Blues in the Champions League.
The midfielder made his professional debut for Schalke at the age of 17 in February last season. The midfielder has managed to net four times in eighteen appearances for the Bundesliga outfit this season. Playing alongside another Chelsea target Julian Draxler the duo have formed a decent partnership for Schalke who are sixth in the Bundesliga.
Meyer was part of Germany U-17 squad for 2012 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship. He scored three goals and helped Germany to reach the final which the Germans lost in a penalty shoot-out to the Netherlands. Nevertheless, he was top scorer and awarded best player of the tournament.
With Chelsea’s transfer policy recently, it has be rumoured that the German might be bought in the January transfer window and might be loaned immediately. The club most likely being Schalke itself. However it remains to be seen if the London outfit are prepared to shell out £12.5 million while they search for a quality striker in the Winter window.
