Chelsea vs Man Utd - A Chelsea Supporter's Review

Mohak

Time and again, there comes a match which is remembered for seasons to come because of it’s intensity, performances and comebacks. For Chelsea vs Man Utd match, it wouldn’t be wrong if I say that a lot of people had already anticipated it to be such a clash. And it proved to be one. The match had intensity – 2 breakaway goals for Man Utd on quick counter attacks, Chelsea stepping up the gear and getting back on level terms. The match had a comeback – Chelsea were 2 goals down in the first 15 mins against Man Utd and yet made it 2-2. And the match had performances – notably of Juan Mata, De Gea and Mark Clattenburg. And it was Clattenburg, whose performance had the most impact in the match.

Even though I am a big Chelsea supporter, and a pretty frustrated and angry one right now, I will not go down the road on how Man Utd “bribed the officials” and “have a secret backing from FA”. Certainly there were very questionable decisions in the match but that is how this EPL weekend had turned out. The Everton match had it, the Arsenal match had it and so did Chelsea’s. Man Utd did not win 19 titles because of the refs. And it takes talent in a team to even make use of such lucky errors and Man Utd has plenty of it.

I say let’s not talk about how Chelsea were cheated by the ref, let’s not get frustrated about how Chicharito, went through undetected to score a ghost goal in the end. Let’s take the positives for Chelsea from the match.

Let’s be proud of the fact that even with 9 players against 11 for a considerable time, Chelsea had 49% of the possession. Let’s not rue the carelessness that cost us 2 goals, rather appreciate the threatening runs and the composure that Chelsea showed after that, when Cole finally decided that he cannot keep on running forward as Valencia, RvP and Rafael running in the left were too much for Luiz to handle. Let us be happy to have Mata, Hazard, Ramires, Mikel and Oscar in the midfield who, though lack experience (Mikel didn’t really play a lot before so he is not that experienced), maintained their calm and precision throughout the minutes they played. And let us not get sad at one loss that at this stage does not threaten our title chances and rather be happy as such unfair decisions do get a team together. Yes, it was a loss. Yes, it was against Man Utd and yes Chelsea did not deserve it. But it cannot be changed anymore. Let’s forget it, be proud of the players, keep the chin up(Jose style) and KTBFFH.
