#7 Kai Havertz - £140,000 per week
Chelsea’s joint-record signing, Kai Havertz, cost the Blues a whopping £72m from Bayer Leverkusen in the most recent transfer window. It should hardly come as a surprise that the 21-year-old German is also one of Chelsea’s highest earners too, making £140k per week on a deal running until 2025.
Thus far into 2020-21, it’s probably fair to say that Chelsea fans haven’t seen the best of Havertz, although he has delivered four goals in his 10 appearances. But after a 2019-20 season that saw him deliver 16 goals and eight assists, hopes will be high once he’s settled in some more.
#6 N’Golo Kante - £144,231 per week
French international N’Golo Kante remains one of the world’s best holding midfielders, and although his form didn’t quite match his best in 2019-20, he’s still one of Chelsea’s key men. The French international’s current deal runs until 2023, when he’ll be 32 years old.
The current campaign has seen Kante complete all eight of Chelsea’s Premier League games, and interestingly, he’s largely been deployed in his favored deep-lying role. If the Frenchman can return to the form that he showed in Chelsea’s 2016-17 Premier League title-winning season, he could well help them challenge for the title once again.
#5 Cesar Azpilicueta - £145,000 per week
Chelsea’s current captain, Cesar Azpilicueta’s career as a first-team regular with the Blues now seems to be coming to an end. Youngster Reece James appears to have taken his spot as the club’s first-choice right-back, but that does not mean Azpilicueta’s importance to the Chelsea cause will wane.
The Spaniard is one of Frank Lampard’s most experienced and trusted lieutenants. And with a long and tough season ahead, he’ll certainly be required at some stage. More to the point, with another two years remaining on his current £145k-per-week deal, he should remain at Stamford Bridge for some time yet.
#4 Kepa Arrizabalaga - £150,000 per week
After making a number of costly errors in the 2019-20 campaign, Chelsea have now replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga as their first-choice goalkeeper. But with a contract giving him a whopping £150k per week and lasting until 2025, it appears that the Blues will be stuck with the Spaniard for some time.
It seems unlikely that Kepa will be able to force himself back into Frank Lampard’s immediate plans. But it also seems unlikely that a rival club will want to sign him considering his contract and transfer fee. Perhaps the Spaniard should seek a loan move in January as his priority?
#3 Christian Pulisic - £158,654 per week
One of last season’s only Chelsea signings, US international Christian Pulisic made quite the impact in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. Not only did he score 10 goals and register five assists, but he marked himself out as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents.
The only thing that appears to be holding the 22-year-old back? He’s seemingly somewhat injury-prone, as he only completed 25 Premier League matches last season and has only made three appearances thus far in 2020-21. However, when he’s fit, he more than justifies his hefty £158k-per-week contract.
#2 Timo Werner - £170,000 per week
Raking in a hefty £170k per week, German international Timo Werner stands as Chelsea’s second-highest earner in the 2020-21 campaign. But after a somewhat slow start, he’s already beginning to justify his transfer fee and wage packet.
Werner currently has a total of seven goals and two assists in just 11 matches for Chelsea and looks to be the focal point of their attack. Capable of playing as a center-forward and also from a wide position, the German international is still just 24 years old.
After scoring 28 goals in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig last season, Werner will be hoping to recapture that kind of form in the Premier League. If he can do that, then he could well fire Chelsea to a genuine title challenge.
#1 Ben Chilwell - £190,000 per week
It might come as somewhat of a surprise, but left-back Ben Chilwell is reportedly Chelsea’s highest earner, raking in a massive £190k per week. Signed from Leicester for around £50m in the recent transfer window, with a contract like that, it’s easy to see how highly rated he is by Blues boss Frank Lampard.
Thankfully for the England international, his Chelsea career has gotten off to an excellent start. Since returning from injury at the beginning of the campaign, he’s been ever-present for Chelsea in the Premier League. Chilwell has also delivered two goals and two assists while also helping to shore up his side’s defense.
If he continues at his current rate, then he’ll easily be worth every penny.
