It is Chelsea‘s second home game of the season and it is against the dark horses from the last season,Newcastle United. The Toons surprised many last season by finishing fifth, and they also started the new season on a high by defeating AVB’s Tottenham on the opening day. Chelsea,on the other hand, started the campaign with a 2-0 win over Wigan and won a hard fought match against the newly promoted side,Reading. So,it’s Chelsea’s third game in a span of six days. Newcastle, also had a match on Thursday, but they rested most of their key players ahead of their crisp Premier League match.
For Chelsea,John Terry is out with a minor neck injury,so we might see a Cahill-Luiz partnership in the defence for the first time, this season. Chelsea new signings,Azpilicueta and Moses may have to wait for their debut a bit longer. However,we might see Azpilicueta start from the bench.Marko Marin,is still out with his hamstring injury, and is due to return on the 15th of September.
Here,is the probable starting line up for the Blues, today :-
Ivanovic and Cole,as usual will be the preferred RB and LB respectively. With unavailability of John Terry at the heart of our defence,Di Matteo might be forced to start with a little defensive line up. Mikel, who had a fairly good game on wednesday will have to be stable at the back. Ben Arfa will look to cause problems in the wings, so the useful defensive capabilities of Ramires will come handy. There is also a possible chance of Oscar starting today, in the place of Juan Mata. Oscar is yet to start a game, as he came off the bench in Chelsea’s last two outings. Mata, who had a very busy summer, might be given a well deserved rest ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash against Atletico Madrid. Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba will keep the duo of Luiz and Cahill busy, throughout the match. Luiz, who is just back from an injury needs to be focused and cautious as the Toons’ Frontmen will not let any oppurtunities go to waste. Hazard will probably start in the left, but may also play a central role.
Here,is another probable line up,if RDM wants to start with a defensive line up :-
Also,we cannot rule out the possibility of Bertrand starting, yet. He might play in the left wing, if Matteo really decides to rest Mata. Torres, who showed glimpses of what he is capable of on Wednesday ,will be a constant threat to the Toons’ defense. All in all ,it will not be an easy match for the Champions League winners and Alan Pardew’s men will give it their best to take away three points from the Bridge.
