Sources can now confirm that the international friendly match between India and Philippines scheduled to be played on November 15 could eventually move out of Delhi and be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.
Though the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is yet to confirm the venue for the upcoming game, the rumour could end up being a reality as Chennai was one of the cities in contention to host the friendly game.
The AIFF officials earlier this week had inspected the ground condition and the facilities available at the newly renovated Nehru stadium in Chennai, but a final conformation could be expected only after a second round of inspection, which could happen very soon.
The Chennai stadium was recently renovated at an expense of Rs. 40 crore for the proposed Asian Athletics Championship, which was later moved out of the state owing to the Sri Lankan Tamil issue that had hit the city.
Moreover, as per the sources, the second international friendly game, which the national team is due to play on November 19, could see Guwahati as the host city. Given the weather condition, the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati could host the second friendly game to be played later next month.
