Chile’s fans broke through a security barrier at the Maracana stadium and ran into the press room.
The media centre at the Maracana was then under siege as the fans then proceeded to trash the entire area, trying to get into the stadium for the Spain- Chile game. Security at the Maracana Media centre are working to remove all the intruders from the press room.
This is the first major incident at a World Cup that has so far only given us great football and atmosphere. The press room is said to have been damaged considerably, with walls having crashed.
Reports coming in suggest that the majority of the fans who stormed the press room were ticketless. No injuries have been reported as yet. Some fans have been arrested by the Brazilian military police. And 85 of those Chileans will be sent back home after causing needless havoc.
