2 – Tim Cahill
The Australian captain joined Shanghai Shenhua in 2015, after leaving MLS side New York Red Bulls by mutual agreement. He scored 11 goals in 28 appearances for Shanghai Shenhua, but less than a year after joining, he announced the mutual termination of his contract after being told that he wasn’t part of the new manager’s plans.
The 36-year-old then signed for another Chinese side Hangzhou Greentown, for whom he netted 4 times in 17 appearances. In July 2016 Cahill was released by the club, just four months since making his debut. The former Everton regular has now signed a 3-year contract with Melbourne City, where he intends to stop playing and take on a directing role in the final year of the contract. Cahill is the top scorer for his country with 48 strikes in 92 appearances.
