Christmas is round the corner and people are out shopping the perfect gift for their near and dear ones. This holiday season is a favourite amongst kids, particularly, as they’d like to have their wishes granted by good old Santa Claus. Growing up hasn’t made quite a few of us any different. We still harbour in ourselves a few wishes that we’d all love to come true.
My favourite Christmas wish, one that came true, was asking Santa for Roy Hodgson to be sacked! True to his powers, Santa granted me my wish which incidentally went on to put smiles on the faces of the millions of relieved Reds supporters across the globe. But the fact remains that only a few lucky ones get blessed by Santa!
Going into the Christmas period, we’ve already witnessed the secret wish of Manchester United and Manchester City supporters come true. They both wished for the other to be knocked out from the Champions League and I think Santa was a little overworked here or had a trouble recollecting his memory but he granted both of them! We all know what followed –
Similarly supporters of different clubs would like to see their respective teams achieve something that they’d wished for. Put in other words, they would want Santa Claus to grant them a couple of wishes which would see their team fare well. So here we take a look at a hypothetical wish list of the supporters of the 20 teams competing in the Barclays Premier League. Before you read on, keep this in mind –

Arsenal supporters – the Gooners as they call themselves would like to ask Santa to keep their players from getting injured all the time! That’s something the Gunners haven’t had much luck with since their invincible season! And as Andre Santos joins his mates on the out injured list, Arsene Wenger is now left without a choice of a regular fullback (One would have noticed he fielded four centre-halves as his back four in the game against Everton).
Bacary Sagna is scheduled to return by the end of this month but is he being rushed back? We wouldn’t know. But one thing we do know, Mr Wenger is really going to stretch his squad to the fullest. Also with the African Nations Cup set to begin, Wenger will be without one or two of his key players. Still he is adamant and insists there won’t be any fresh faces coming in January.
With a match coming up against Man City, all I’ve got to say is that Arsenal supporters can enjoy as much as they want now. But if they do not want another one of their spectacular collapses, like they have so been used to over the past six years, they’d better pray to Santa! Else, Robin Van Persie will have to make a choice come June!
ASTON VILLA
Villa supporters’ worries have been about the lack of goals from record signing Darren Bent. So there you go, we’ve made it clear that it’s neither Alex McLeish nor Emile Heskey! Anyway, the point being that Aston Villa supporters would definitely like to see their team winning more at their historic home ground, Villa Park. The villans have let slip of advantageous positions this season and played out tame draws both home and away, even against the promoted teams. This has irked some of the supporters who are still smarting from the appointment of McLeish!
Hence Santa is going to have to make a tough call because what both McLeish and Villa faithfuls want are more points from games played at home to achieve a realistic target of seventh position and then hope to clinch a Europa League spot. But as hopeless as he is, McLeish is left with no choice but to prepare his team for tough fixtures against Liverpool, Arsenal, Stoke, and Chelsea to name a few!
BLACKBURN ROVERS & BOLTON WANDERERS
Well, what is left to say of these two bottom–feeders! Both sets of fans will only have a single wish to make – SACK THE MANAGER!
While Rovers fans would be pretty adamant that it is the only thing they want, Trotters supporters should be cool if Owen Coyle manages to turn the club’s fortunes around, improve the results and getting them out of that dreaded relegation zone! But he is going to find it tough as he too, like Wenger, is short of options with several players out injured.
CHELSEA
Chelsea Football club showed signs of brilliance in their last three encounters — RE: Andre Villas-Boas vs. The Sun, Andre Villas-Boas vs. Gary Neville, Andre Villas-Boas vs. Press where they scored some valuable points, at least that’s what they believe! Ok before you come to conclusions, I well and truly understand the importance of good press. But what young Villas-Boas must understand is that he has got enough problems on the pitch already yet he thinks he is justified to come out and bash the media. Andre, you can’t shut up the media or Gary Neville!
One week of positive results, agreed that included victory over Man City, does not ensure consistent success for Chelsea. Andre has got Drogba firing once again, but what about Torres? That’s something the media will catch up in the following weeks. Not just that, but questions like – Has Lampard got issues with Villas-Boas? Will Drogba stay at Chelsea? Was Ashley Cole the reason for tunnel bust-up? What happens to David Luiz? What is John Terry up to these days? etc… etc… etc…
Will Andre focus all his energy on to such things or will he concentrate on his own career should he wish to stay at Chelsea for years to come. I’m sure that’s what Andre will be asking Santa for! And the Chelsea supporters would want their good run of form turn to a dominant run of form. But the one person’s wish that matters most at CFC is of Roman Abramovich. I wonder what he will be asking Santa…!
Christmas Carol continues….. Check out its continuation tomorrow!
