Churchill Brothers Goa tamed Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim, with a 4-1 victory in their third round encounter of the Goa Pro League 2013 at the Duler Stadium, Mapusa .
The Red Machines enjoyed the lion’s share of possession for the entire duration of the match and they could have scored more goals. A brace each from the returning Henri Anchouet and Jaison Vales gave a third straight win in the Goa Pro League for Churchill Brothers Goa.
After the national anthem was played to mark the Independence Day at the Stadium, the match kicked off and the Red Machines instantly took charge of the proceedings. They scored the first goal in the 9th minute itself when Jaison Vales converted a Dharamaraj Ravanan diagonal pass. Churchill Brothers further upped the ante and Bineesh Balan came close to scoring in the 11th minute but he smashed his shot wide.
Henri Anchouet was getting at the end of every ball played from the midfield and his hard work finally paid off in the 16th minute, when he picked up a brilliant overhead ball from Raju Yumnam and scored the second goal for the Red Machines.
Henri quickly added his second with a similar move, which saw Raju Yumnam again feeding him a through ball and Henri calmly slotting the ball past the Cavelossim goalkeeper. In the 39th minute, Santa Cruz Club, Cavelossim reduced the margin whenGodfrey Rodriguesscored past Churchill Brothers goalkeeper, Arindam Bhattacharya in a one on one situation. At the lemon break, the score read 3-1 in favour of Churchill Brothers Goa.
It was the same story in the second half with Churchill Brothers getting plenty of chances to see off Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim, however their goalkeeper ,Jason D’mello, kept the Churchill strikers at bay with some wonderful saves. However Churchill Brothers increased their margin in the 82nd minute through Jaison Vales who made a brilliant run into the opposition half and placed the ball into the bottom corner ending all hopes of a comeback for the Santa Cruz Club.
