Ciprian Marica is a 27-year-old Romanian international striker. Because he possesses attributes such as speed, movement, and dribbling, he can also be employed as a winger.
Recently linked with the likes of Arsenal, Lazio, Inter, Shakhtar, and West Ham, he was released from Schalke a few months ago after his contract with the German side met its conclusion. Despite his seemingly awful club scoring record, he is actually a quality player.
He had issues with the managers at both Stuttgart and Schalke and had to compete with the likes of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for minutes, but in the minutes he allocated he generally played well. His laziness and greediness are the biggest reasons for his failures at club level.
However, if Marica signs with a top club like Arsenal, it will probably be his last chance to prove himself at this level and show who he truly is and shut up the doubters once and for all.
Interestingly enough, he’s always shown his true colours while playing internationally for Romania. I’ve never seen him have a bad game and he’s scored against some of the best sides in the world. These include the likes of Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia, Croatia, and Russia.
In Romania’s most recent international, a World Cup Qualifier against Hungary, Marica scored a quick goal and assisted the second.
If Arsenal, West Ham, or any other club decide to sign him on a free, they’ll find that he’s worth it. This highly underrated player with a bad club reputation deserves another chance to prove himself and make things right.
Assuming that Arsene Wenger picks him up, he’d be a good backup for Olivier Giroud at the very least. Now it’s only a matter of time before Marica’s fate is revealed and hopefully, for his own good, decides to take this chance more seriously this time around.
