The Manchester derby was probably one of the best matches of this season, but people will remember the end of the match as the highlight. Yes, van Persie’s goal was splendid but what happened after that made news. A City fan ran onto the pitch and charged at Rio Ferdinand, only to be held back by the City goalkeeper, Joe Hart.
This brave, and rather crazy, City fan’s name is Matthew Stott. He, ironically, worked as a gardener for the Manchester United legend, Sir Bobby Charlton. Now that’s just weird! Stott, of Knutsford, Cheshire, drank eight pints of beer before running onto the pitch at the Etihad Stadium. He said his “world fell apart” because of the goal and he thought the Dutchman was taunting him.
Sir Bobby, 75, said: “He was a very nice lad. I don’t know what happened at the match.”
Whatever the case, it was really brave of him to get drunk and run at one of the largest players on the pitch.
