Brasilia, Aug 11 (IANS) Clarence Seedorf bemoaned his team’s ill fortune after an own goal condemned Botafogo to a 1-1 draw against Goias in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Defender Andre Bahia deflected the ball into his own net in the 68th minute Saturday, cancelling out Rafael Marques’ opener at the Mane Garrincha Stadium, reports Xinhua.
Goias were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute when midfielder Hugo received his second yellow card for a foul on Marcelo Mattos.
Botafogo remain at the top of the standings but could be surpassed by Cruzeiro and Coritiba Sunday.
“We improved in the second half and managed to score but it’s always difficult when you concede an own goal. That happens. We controlled the game but the team deserves to be congratulated. It’s difficult to beat Botafogo,” Seedorf said.
Ronaldinho‘s Atletico Mineiro drew 0-0 away to Nautico in Saturday’s only other match.
