Former Manchester United players Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt are working alongside Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs for the remaining games of the season as the Welsh winger takes charge following David Moyes’ sacking, report the Express.
Moyes was sacked yesterday after a terrible season in charge. He took over from Sir Alex Ferguson last summer and started well at United, winning the Charity Shield and beating Swansea City on the opening day 4-1.
However, things soon turned sour and United will probably finish the season in seventh place, way off the top four and the title race even further away.
It was slightly fitting that Moyes’ last game in charge was at Goodison Park, the same way as he ended his Everton career last summer.
Now jobless, Moyes’ role has been occupied by Ryan Giggs as the club seek a full-time replacement. The winger, who is still a player at the club, has been joined today by Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes as they try to end the season on a high.
Butt is currently the club’s Under-19 and reserve coach but has been promoted temporarily to assist Giggs. And despite being a part of Moyes’ coaching staff, Phil Neville has remained in his position as first-team coach.
Scholes has also returned to the club he famously played over 700 times for.
United play Norwich City at the weekend with Giggs’ staff set to be in place by then.
